From the Publisher Eight Isn't Enough

It's early on a Tuesday morning.  Six-thirty, to be exact.  Too early to be banging the keyboard in search of my column for this edition of Central Iowa Business, but mornings (for me, anyway) are the best time for writing.  The office is quiet.the coffee strong.and my mind, what little there is left, is free of the clutter and mental spam each day inevitably brings.  In a word.I'm fresh.

But, do I really need to be fresh to write about my topic du jour.publishing schedules and distribution frequencies?  How difficult is it to say we've added four issues to our schedule and now we are publishing monthly?  Okay.not too hard, but, getting you to read this column and remember this trivial bit of information is where "fresh" comes in.

So, I'm sitting here thinking about how best to announce our decision to go from eight issues to 12 when it hits me.  Where it came from is anyone's guess.but my mind immediately flashed back to the 1970's (a popular destination, um, so I'm told, for flashbacks).  Specifically, to the hit television show Eight Is Enough.  You remember: Dick Van Patten, the Bradford family, eight kids?  Well, I have two teenagers, so trust me.Eight?  Yeah, that's definitely enough. 

But, in publishing (and I guess, TV sitcoms), eight is an awkward number.  I'd be pleased to explain how we originally arrived at that unique frequency, but if I haven't lost you yet, that would most certainly be the deathblow.

The good news is, for us and for our 30,000 readers, we have decided to increase our publishing frequency and will now distribute a new edition of our popular Central Iowa Business each month.
Eight may be enough for the Bradfords.but for Pioneer Communications and Central Iowa Business.eight just wasn't good enough.
