Greek Week 2008
Greek Week 2008 kicked off on Sunday, March 30, with tournaments beginning the week before. The week included many community service opportunities, tournaments, Lip Sync, along with Greek Olympics and the annual Polar Bear Plunge both held on Saturday, April 5. A big thank you to everyone involved for helping to coordinate such a successful Greek Week! Some highlights: - Over 300 prospective new members participated in Greek Getaway (a preview program where prospective students stay in chapter facilities and learn more about what Greek life has to offer). This year was the most successful Greek Getaway to date whereas around only 200 students visited during Greek Getaway last year.
- Polar Bear Plunge (where members of the Greek Community raise money to jump into Lake LaVerne) raised over $33,000 for Special Olympics of Iowa, the most any university has ever raised in Iowa. This greatly surpassed the $25,000 raised during last year and the $28,500 goal set for this year.
- This year was the first time Greek Week partnered with Relay for Life to include it with Greek Week activities. The event raised over $90,000 total for the American Cancer Society.
