This is an opportunity for students to visit the campus and experience Iowa State along with their parents. Chapters should expect alumni members to possibly be on campus and "dropping in" to see houses and/or receive a tour.

Campustown Neighborhood Safety Walk, October 6

The Ames Police Department along with the Government of the Student Body are coordinating a Neighborhood Safety Walk in the Campustown area on Monday, October 6. Representatives of City of Ames Departments, working in partnership with students and residents, will gather at 7:30 p.m. at Fire Station No. 2, 132 Welch Ave.

The Neighborhood Safety Walk includes creating an inventory of safety-related concerns as participants walk the streets in the south campus area. Common concerns will be lighting and vegetation, but any issue encountered in need of attention will be documented. The walk will last from 60 to 90 minutes.

"We view this as an opportunity to walk the same sidewalks used every day by the neighbors and really focus on what we can do to make the area safer," said Chuck Cychosz, Ames Police Chief. "Actions as simple as replacing a burned out security light or trimming vegetation can make a tremendous difference in the safety of a neighborhood."

The Neighborhood Safety Walk is open to the public. For more information, contact the Ames Police Department at (515) 239-5130

If you wish to volunteer, please contact:

MAP-Works for Freshmen Members

Iowa State has recently launched a program called Making Achievement Possible-Works (MAP-Works) for freshmen. Participation is voluntary, but we highly encourage all freshmen new members to participate. The results of the survey may be useful to chapter academic programming, and the retention and overall success of new members.

An example: a student may expect to receive a 3.5 GPA this semester, but may only be intending to study 5 hours per week. The survey will indicate to them that their study habits will not result in their expected GPA.

Information for new members:
-Students can access the survey through AccessPlus
-The survey will take around 20 minutes
-Members will receive an individualized report comparing their results with their peers
